Hypnosis is a way of communication to bring people
into a trance-like state. This state is
characterized by a
changed consciousness involving focused attention. As a result, emotions and
perceptions (e.g., pain perception) can be altered.
The term hypnosis also refers to a therapeutic
procedure that uses suggestion and trance to initiate and support helpful
processes of transformation or to achieve, for example, a decrease in anxiety
and pain.
